1 Killed, 2 Hurt in Video Game Dispute by Kirk Jensen

In Fresno California Police arrested a college student on Tuesday May 8th for shooting an off-campus apartment over a dispute over a video game console, in the process killing one man and injuring two others.

The suspect Jonquel Brooks, a freshman at California State University was arrested for the murder and assault with a deadly weapon following a search in neighborhoods surrounding the campus.""The suspect had altered his appearance significantly," Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. "He shaved his head and also changed his clothing apparently in an attempt to avoid being recognized.""

One of the wounded men told police the dispute stated Monday night with other victims accused Brooks of stealing a Sony Playstation console and some video game.

"The guy who shot us - he had stolen from our apartment. We went to confront him with the evidence and it just turned ugly from there. He pulled a gun out on us," said Drew Pfeiff, 22, of Raleigh, N.C. "People don't deserve to die for stupid stuff like this.""The gunman fired five or six times, grazing Pfeiff.

Brooks, of Hayward, was being held in lieu of $3 million bail Tuesday."

Self-defense for Brooks?Brooks' defense attorney, David Mugridge, told reporters that Brooks received a grazing wound to his upper right thigh, which required treatment at a hospital.

Mugridge also stated: "This is a young man who was doing reasonably well at Fresno State and was not known as a loner, If anything, this was an issue of self-defense."

Brooks ex-girlfriend Meosha Chase, 19 described Brooks as "normal, goofy, silly" teen who wanted to be a parole officer."

Event started first in Brooks' apartment then progressed into the hallway. All people involved live in the same apartment complex, location just north of the Fresno State football stadium. The deceased victim was identified as Brant Daniels, 19 who moved from Los Angeles area to attend Fresno State but was not yet a current student.

The two wonded men where Fresno State students Roderick Buycks, 19, and Pfeiff.

"The two men were treated at a hospital for gunshot wounds and later released." After some negotiation Brooks surrendered without incident.

So what does this all mean? Are people so addicted to video gaming that people would actually kill other people for their video game console? Or was it more an invasion and stealing of one's property that drove them over the edge? Either way a Sony Playstation Console would only cost around $50 to $60 not worth killing anybody for if stolen. If it meant that much to them why didn't they call the police and have them take care of it, instead a bloody mess ensued.
